Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Nitric Pty Ltd ("Nitric", "we", "us", or "our") collects when you visit nitric.io, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies only to this website. Our product documentation, SaaS products, and any other services we offer are covered by their own terms and privacy notices.
We deliberately keep data collection on nitric.io to a minimum. There are no user accounts, no payments, no tracking cookies, and no advertising on this site.
What we collect
Anonymous website analytics
We use Fathom Analytics to understand which pages people visit and how they move through the site. Fathom is a privacy-focused analytics provider that does not use cookies, does not store IP addresses, and does not create cross-site profiles of visitors. The data we see is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you.
Specifically, Fathom records page views, referring domains, scroll depth milestones (10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 90%), and clicks on a handful of buttons and links (for example, newsletter sign-ups). You can read more in Fathom's privacy policy.
Newsletter email address
If — and only if — you submit the newsletter form, we collect the email address you provide. We use HubSpot to store that address and send you newsletter emails. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, or by emailing us at privacy@nitric.io.
We don't share newsletter email addresses with anyone outside of the providers listed below, and we don't sell them.
Local browser storage
This site uses your browser's local storage to remember small UI preferences (for example, the programming language tab you selected in a code sample) and to cache our public GitHub star count. Nothing in local storage is sent back to us or used to identify you.
Standard server logs
Like most websites, our hosting provider keeps short-lived request logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp) for operational and security purposes such as blocking abuse. These logs are retained for a limited period by our host and are not used to profile visitors.
Who we share data with
We rely on a small number of trusted service providers ("sub-processors") to run nitric.io. We only share what they need to do their job.
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel | Website hosting and CDN | IP address, request metadata (server logs) |
| Fathom Analytics | Anonymous analytics | Aggregated page views, scroll events, clicks |
| HubSpot | Newsletter storage and delivery | Email address (if you subscribe) |
| Google Fonts | Typography | IP address (request to Google's font CDN) |
| YouTube (no-cookie mode) | Embedded videos | Only if you play an embedded video |
| GitHub | Public star count API | None (public data only) |
If you follow an outbound link from nitric.io to a third-party service such as Calendly, Discord, or GitHub, that service's own privacy policy applies to anything you do there.
We may also disclose information if we're required to by law, or if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Nitric, our users, or the public.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter email: kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Fathom analytics: aggregated and anonymous — there is nothing tied to you to delete.
- Server logs: retained for a short period by our host for operational and security purposes.
Your rights and choices
Regardless of where you live, you can email privacy@nitric.io to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you (in practice, the only likely item is a newsletter email address).
- Ask us to correct or delete it.
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter.
We aim to acknowledge requests within 5 business days and resolve them within 30 days.
If you're in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom
Even though Nitric is based in Australia and the United States, the GDPR and UK GDPR may apply when we process your personal data. Where they do:
- Our lawful basis for sending you the newsletter is your consent, which you give by submitting the sign-up form. You can withdraw that consent at any time by unsubscribing.
- Our lawful basis for anonymous analytics and operational logging is our legitimate interest in running and securing the site.
- You have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
- Your data may be transferred to and stored in Australia or the United States, where our providers are located.
If you're in California
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request a copy or deletion of it, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. As described above, the only personal information we collect through nitric.io is the email address of newsletter subscribers. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Security
No online service can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited information we do collect, including HTTPS across the entire site, restricted access to our analytics and email provider, and a short retention window for operational logs.
Children
nitric.io is intended for developers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We review this policy at least once every 12 months, and whenever we make a change to how nitric.io collects or uses information. When we update it, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be announced in the newsletter or on the site.
